With spurt in story based learning, instructional designers would present themselves as storytellers, setting the theme, conflict and building the climax. This approach works best when needed to deliver concepts that are:

  • Abstract based (to teach soft skills such as leadership)
  • Dull or uninspiring (ex: compliance-related courses as Code of Conduct, Rule 10b5-1 etc.

Whether information is basic or complex, it can be related to practical situations by weaving a storyline around it to engage learners and provide a learning context.
